“Giving birth is an incredible act of nature and power.”
- Michele Obama
I’m Haydie,
I am so excited you are here!
I'm one of the lucky ones. I LOVE my job. I love being a myo and helping people feel an move better in their body’s. I love educating them on how their body’s work, and how to work best with their body’s instead of against them.
I knew I wanted to be a myo since I was a teen, so jumped straight into uni after completing my year 12. I have always loved working with women, and really started to dig deeper into the women’s health space in 2019 when we were planning for our first baby, after my own journey discovering my pelvic health.
But to me ‘women’s health’ doesn’t start and end with their pelvic anatomy or their want/ability to have a baby. I love helping women through all stages of life, with special interest in conditions that proportionately effect women.
I also have special interest in supporting people with chronic pain conditions, neurodiverse people, and those managing hypermobility or Ehlers Danlos Syndrome.
I am a typical eldest daughter vibe, I am often the ‘mother’ of the group, making sure everyone is cared for. I’m a little sarcastic, have a dark sense of humour and drop way too many swear words to be of polite society. I’m a home body that enjoys solitude, which is tough to find with to little ones running absolute rings around me.
So that’s me! Now I would love to hear about you! Reach out and connect with me, ask me any questions you need to see if I’m the right fit for you.
So, why birth work?
I have always LOVED birth. I would watch birth videos, follow birthy IG accounts, and listen to any and all of the birth story podcasts all before I even started trying to conceive our first.
I used to even DREAM about giving birth, when I was like 10! So when I fell pregnant I was so excited (obviously for the baby too!) about the actual birth process. It felt like this was what I was meant to do.
And my experience was EUPHORIC. It was empowering and mind altering - pure bliss (although not how I originally envisioned)
But I know that’s not how it is for a lot families. As is common for many first time mums - people told me all the stories. The really scary, and down right dangerous stories. But that’s not how I knew birth to be. I had witnessed it.
Over 1/3 of parents reported experiencing birth trauma, and so many statements like ‘I didn’t know I could say no’ or ‘I should have trusted my gut’, it became obvious to me that so many didn’t have the knowledge or confidence to back themselves like I had.
So I became a doula, so that I could help families feel confident, supported and in charge of the birth of their baby!
My mum was a midwife, and always was open, honest and real about our bodies, pregnancy, birth and beyond. She never used negative language around labour and birth.
I grew up learning that birth was a beautiful, sacred, messy, unpredictable, transformative, and yes there would be pain, but my mum never dwelled on this, she described it as the best kind of pain. She showed me (literally, I was there when my little brother, and little sister were born) how amazing birth can be!
I knew I was lucky with the knowledge and wisdom passed down to me.
My hope with my work is that I am able to pass the wisdom, power and confidence that my mum passed to me, for not only my clients, but as they reach out to their friends and family as well.
And hopefully, the next generation of women will know their power, and what their bodies are truly capable of. To be able to navigate the maternity system armed with everything they need to know. To have their village supporting them throughout. To be able to grapple with their fears. And most importantly - have their voices heard.
A very special thank you to my mum, Rita aka Del, for without you - none of this would be possible. You gave me wings and made me fly xx
Birth is a normal natural physiological process. Every birth will have its own nuances, but for the vast majority, an undisturbed parent led experience is the safest option.
With that said, I also believe that the sovereignty of birth lies with the parent. That is when they are adequately informed (or not, if they CHOOSE so) and make decisions with that information that align most with their thoughts, beliefs, and values.
